January 18, 2011 Horticulture Meeting
Tour of Unbelievable Acres
(click on pictures to see larger version)
On January 18th 22 members visited Unbelievable Acres Botanic
Gardens, Inc. in West Palm Beach for a Horticulture field trip. Gene
Joyner and two other guides, Larry and Jane
gave us a tour of the rainforest, which is an unforgettable experience.
There are shrubs,
flowering trees, tropical fruits and a most unusual Sausage Tree with
sausage-like fruit up
to two feet long; as well as many varieties of citrus and other unusual
tropical vines and other plants. This is just a partial list of all
there is to see and the history of how it became a rainforest is
fascinating. Our tour was about one and half hours followed by an
opportunity to purchase some of the
plants we saw during the tour. It was a most enjoyable field trip on a
beautiful day in the
rainforest in West Palm Beach.
